Rev. Allison Cornell
Bishop Smith came to Safford on June 21st and spoke to members of both All Saints Church and St. Philips and St. James (Morenci) church to discuss the next steps for these churches in the new Vicar process. He announced that he has approved raising-up All Saints member Devin Gillespie for the priesthood ordination process in the Episcopal church. The Bishop anticipates between 2-3 years of formation for Devin before he will be ordained a priest. In the meanwhile, Fr. Ted Holt from Green Valley will be priest-in-charge of the two churches and make himself available to the churches 3 Sundays each month, alternating between churches on visits.
Parish Hall refurbishment plans have been approved for the church to begin collecting bids from contractors for the work to be done. There are 4 project areas:
1) Remodel of both bathrooms and replace sewer lines
2) Parish Hall updates to create double door to parking lot, add a patio, replace countertops, remove wall between kitchen and hall, add a closet, and replace flooring.
3) Remove cry room in sanctuary and reincorporate that space into the sanctuary, new carpet.
4) Add pergola over the new patio area for outdoor seating.
Remodel committee will begin making appointments to meet with building contractors for bids on the plans.
We have designs for the two stained glass windows for the entry way and the library. Stained Glass artist Monika to meet with EA Glass about constructing the frame to hold her artwork and to determine the overall cost of these two window projects as currently planned.
Gretchen Rabb Sunday – 25 June we will have a special collection of donations to continue the Fund established by Gretchen Rabb to support single parents with kids. Children were a delight to Gretchen and her legacy is to help those who are single parents with kids. Most recently, All Saints made a donation to the Mt. Graham Safehouse from the Gretchen Rabb Fund for air conditioner replacement so that mothers and their kids in residence could keep cool in the heat wave. Please consider making a donation to the Gretchen Rabb Fund to support those who have limited means.
We need your help – The church has found a person to help clean the church, but we do not have funds set aside for a sexton (fancy word for church cleaner) in our current budget. The cost would be $60/3 hours of cleaning. We ask for your contributions to have this service at least once a month for the remainder of this year (and we will see about budgeting for next year).
If you would like to sponsor a month of cleaning, see Janet to make your contribution.
25 June – Training in how to lead Morning Prayer including how to prepare a homily/reflection. As our church moves into the summer months and Rev. Allison will be available to lead worship only twice per month, the congregation will have opportunities to lead worship in Morning Prayer. This training is intended to help members of the congregation become familiar with the Morning Prayer service and how to prepare a homily/reflection based on the readings for that day. Everyone interested in learning or reviewing this worship service is invited and encouraged to come and participate.
Donate to UA’s campus ministry – The Rev. Ben Garren, chaplain to UA students and faculty, is collecting personal hygiene items for the students: bar soap, razors, feminine hygiene products, combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant. These will be made available to students with tight budgets. Money donations are also helpful. Make checks payable to Episcopal Campus Ministry and send to Rev Ben Garren, 715 N Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85719.
